Features

Good Corrosion Resistance: The chromium content of 430 stainless steel ranges from 16.00% to 18.00%, which can form a dense chromium oxide protective film on the surface, endowing it with excellent corrosion resistance. It can resist the corrosion of the atmosphere, acids, saltwater solutions, etc., and performs more prominently in oxidizing acid solutions. It is suitable for some occasions with a certain corrosive environment.

Excellent Oxidation Resistance: It can resist oxidation. It can withstand a temperature of up to 870°C (1598°F) during irregular use and a temperature of up to 815°C (1499°F) during continuous use. It has good thermal stability and can maintain stable performance in a certain high-temperature environment.

Unique Physical Properties: With a density of 7.75g/cm³, its coefficient of thermal expansion is smaller than that of austenitic stainless steel, and its thermal conductivity is better than that of austenitic stainless steel. This gives it an advantage in some applications with requirements for thermal performance. For example, in an environment with large temperature changes, its dimensional stability is relatively good.

Moderate Machinability: In the annealed state, 430 stainless steel is relatively easy to machine. It can undergo various machining operations such as sawing, milling, drilling, turning, and grinding, and is also relatively easy to bend and form, making it convenient to be made into H-beams of various specifications and shapes to meet different engineering requirements. However, there may be a phenomenon of tool sticking during the machining process, which requires appropriate machining processes and tools to overcome.

Production Process

Steelmaking: First, smelt raw materials containing appropriate amounts of elements such as chromium, carbon, manganese, and silicon, and precisely control the content of each element to meet the chemical composition requirements of 430 stainless steel. Remove impurities, gases, etc. in the molten steel through processes such as refining to improve the quality of the molten steel.

Rolling: Heat the smelted steel ingot to an appropriate temperature and then send it to a rolling mill for rolling. Usually, a multi-pass rolling process is adopted to gradually roll the steel ingot into steel with an H-shaped cross-section. During the rolling process, control parameters such as the rolling speed and reduction amount to ensure the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the H-beam.

Heat Treatment: Carry out heat treatment on the rolled 430 stainless steel H-beam as required, such as annealing, normalizing, tempering, etc. Annealing treatment can eliminate the residual stress inside the steel, improve its organizational structure, and enhance its toughness and machinability; normalizing treatment can refine the grains and improve the strength and hardness of the steel; tempering treatment is mainly to eliminate the quenching stress and improve the toughness and plasticity of the steel.

Surface Treatment: In order to further improve the corrosion resistance and appearance quality of 430 stainless steel H-beams, surface treatment is usually carried out on them. Common surface treatment methods include pickling, passivation, electroplating, painting, etc. Pickling can remove the scale and rust on the surface of the steel; passivation treatment can form a more dense passivation film on the surface of the steel to improve its corrosion resistance; electroplating and painting can form a protective film on the surface of the steel, which can not only prevent corrosion but also play a decorative role.

Application Fields

Building Structures: It can be used to construct building structures with requirements for corrosion resistance, such as coastal buildings and chemical factory buildings. Its corrosion resistance enables it to maintain the stability and safety of the structure even when exposed to a humid or corrosive medium environment for a long time. At the same time, the H-shaped cross-section gives it good load-bearing capacity and can effectively bear the weight of the building.

Chemical Equipment: In the chemical industry, it can be used to manufacture structural support components of some chemical equipment, such as the supports of absorption towers, reaction kettles, storage tanks, etc. The corrosion resistance of 430 stainless steel can ensure that the structure of the equipment will not be rapidly corroded and damaged when in contact with highly corrosive chemical media, thus extending the service life of the equipment.

Food Processing Equipment: Since 430 stainless steel meets the food contact standards, it is safe and non-toxic. The H-beams made of it can be used for the equipment support structures and conveyor device frames in food processing workshops. It not only meets the requirements for hygiene and safety in the food processing industry but also provides sufficient strength and stability.

Environmental Protection Equipment: In the environmental protection field such as sewage treatment equipment and waste gas treatment equipment, 430 stainless steel H-beams can be used as the structural components of the equipment. Its corrosion resistance can resist the erosion of corrosive substances such as acids and alkalis in sewage and waste gas, ensuring that the equipment can operate normally in a harsh working environment.

Common Questions and Answers

Q: How about the strength of the 430 stainless steel I-beam?

A: The 430 stainless steel I-beam has relatively high strength. Its yield strength is generally above 205MPa, and the tensile strength can reach above 450MPa. However, compared with some high-strength alloy steels, its strength is at a medium level. But it can meet the load-bearing requirements of many conventional engineering structures.

Q: How much better is the corrosion resistance of the 430 stainless steel I-beam than that of the ordinary I-beam?

A: Ordinary I-beams are generally made of carbon steel, which is prone to rust and corrosion in a humid environment or when in contact with corrosive media. The 430 stainless steel I-beam contains 16.00%-18.00% of chromium, which can form a dense chromium oxide protective film. Its corrosion resistance is far superior to that of ordinary I-beams. For example, in the same outdoor humid environment, ordinary I-beams may show obvious rust stains within a few months, while the 430 stainless steel I-beam can maintain good appearance and performance for several years.

Q: What should be paid attention to when processing the 430 stainless steel I-beam?

A: When processing the 430 stainless steel I-beam, due to its relatively large tendency of work hardening, the phenomenon of tool sticking is likely to occur. Therefore, it is necessary to use appropriate cutting tools, such as cemented carbide tools, and adopt appropriate cutting parameters, such as a lower cutting speed and a larger feed rate. At the same time, during the bending and forming process, attention should be paid to controlling the amount of deformation to avoid excessive deformation causing internal...
