Description
430 stainless steel pipe

430 stainless steel is a ferritic alloy that provides useful mechanical properties and good resistance to oxidation, especially in mildly corrosive environments. It is magnetic and has a lower thermal expansion coefficient than austenitic steels, which can be advantageous in certain applications.

Chemical Composition

430 stainless steel seamless tubes are produced according to the American ASTM standard, with a carbon content of ≤0.2%, silicon (Si) ≤0.75%, manganese (Mn) ≤1.00%, phosphorus (P) ≤0.00%, sulfur (S) ≤0.030%, nickel (Ni) ≤0.60% (optional), and chromium (Cr) content of16.00 - 18.00%.

Properties

(I) Corrosion Resistance Against oxidizing acids: It has very strong corrosion resistance. Against alkaline solutions and most organic and inorganic acids: It also has certain corrosion resistance, and its resistance to stress corrosion cracking is stronger than 304 steel. However, its corrosion resistance,, and toughness are inferior to 304 stainless steel.

(II) Physical Properties Thermal expansion coefficient: Lower than 304 steel, high oxidation resistance, suitable for heat-resistant equipment. Density: It is 7.75g/cm³.

(III) Processing Properties Deep drawing performance Excellent, similar to 304 steel. Appearance of cold-rolled products: Good brightness. Processing hardening ability: Relatively low, due to itsitic stainless steel nature, its strength is relatively low, and this should be considered when selecting it. After stretching, the surface will appear with directional ridges, brings great difficulty to polishing operations. Additionally, its welding performance is poor, and its tensile strength is also lower than 304

Common Questions and Answers:

Q: What are the typical uses of 430 stainless steel pipes?

A: They are used in applications that demand moderate corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength, such as automotive trim, kitchen utensils, ductwork, and exterior architectural trim.

Q: Is 430 stainless steel pipe resistant to corrosion?

A: 430 stainless steel offers good resistance to a wide variety of corrosive environments including nitric acid and some organic acids. It is less resistant to corrosion compared to austenitic grades and its corrosion resistance decreases with prolonged exposure to temperatures over 800°F.

Q: How to maintain and clean 430 stainless steel surfaces?

A: The best method is regular cleaning with mild soap and water, followed by rinsing with clean water and towel drying. For tougher stains, you can use a mild abrasive cleaner, but always rub in the direction of the polish lines.
